We continually work to make STACK as fast and efficient as possible, but since STACK runs in a web browser, its performance also depends on several outside factors.

    • Your internet connection speed and reliability.
    • Your device – processor speed and memory (RAM) space.
    • The web browser you use.
    • Browser plug-ins, extensions, or firewalls that you have installed.
    • The size of the project you're working on (number of measurements, plans, takeoffs).

If you’re having problems with STACK crashing, running slow, or workflows not running as expected, it's often due to one of these things.

Try working through the troubleshooting steps below to fix the problem.

*Before you get started, remember that sometimes issues can be resolved by simply logging out of STACK and back in, refreshing your browser, or restarting your device.

    1. Check your internet connection speeds.
You can do this for free at www.speedtest.net or other sites.
Recommended speeds: Download ≥ 20 Mbps, Upload ≥ 5 Mbps
Minimum speeds: Download ≥ 15 Mbps, Upload ≥ 3 Mbps
    2. Make sure your computer or tablet meets STACK basic system requirements.
As a general rule, STACK will run best on devices less than 4 years old.
System requirements can be found here.
    3. Clear your browser cache and refresh your page.
We recommend clearing your cache on a regular basis to help ensure optimal STACK performance.
Instructions for Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
    4. Use a preferred browser.
STACK runs best when you use Chrome, Firefox or Safari as your web browser.
      Download Chrome or Firefox.
    5. Switch preferred browsers.
For example, if you were using Chrome, try Firefox. If the problem is fixed by changing browsers, you likely have a plug-in or extension interfering with STACK.
    6. Try disabling unknown plug-ins and extensions.
NOTE: The Chrome DuckDuckGo extension update released 03/02/21 can impact STACK performance. Click here for steps to resolve that issue.
    7. Temporarily disable anti-virus/anti-malware software on your computer.
If this fixes the problem, try whitelisting STACK.
You’ll need to get instructions from your anti-virus software vendor.
    8. Check the size of your projects.
Larger projects will run slower on the average device. We recommend splitting project documents into two separate projects if you reach the thresholds below.
      • Plan pages
Up to 500 per project is optimal; performance degrades at 5,000+
      • Takeoff templates
Up to 100 per project is optimal; performance degrades at 300+
      • Measurements
Up to 1,000 per project is optimal; performance degrades at 5,000+

    Basic System Requirements
    Download Chrome or Firefox
Clear Your Cache - Chrome, Firefox and Safari
    Using STACK with DuckDuckGo
