Create a Takeoff
Takeoffs will default to imperial measurements but you can use the Takeoff Settings sub-tab to switch a project to metric.
- On the takeoff tab and select “New Takeoff”
- Select a measurement type from the dropdown options
- Enter a takeoff name and add any relevant descriptions to the 'description' box
- Review the text in the yellow box to ensure you have selected the correct measurement type
- Click “Create Takeoff" to proceed with your current selection, or choose the "Back to Takeoffs" button to return to the takeoff list and follow directions 1-4.
Repeat these steps to create additional takeoffs
Start a Takeoff
- Open a plan sheet from the document list view on the plans tab or the thumbnail view on the takeoff tab.
- Make sure you’ve already set the scale and you’re on the takeoff tab and follow the directions above to create a new takeoff or select an existing takeoff from the takeoff list.
- Click once to begin or to change directions and double click or press enter to finish. *Based on the selected measurement type, you will find additional takeoff options in the toolbar on the right (including autocount, cutout, rectangle, and shape tools)
- Optionally, you can apply a multiplier or label before you complete a takeoff *We recommend adding label groups to your takeoff for better organization and reporting
- Once you’ve completed your desired measurements, click “Finish Measuring” to complete your takeoff. Your completed takeoff will appear in the takeoff list view (with the total measured quantity, rounded up to the nearest whole number)
Measure an Arc
STACK offers the ability to easily measure arcs. It's also possible to cut out an area of a shape that contains an arc. Here are the steps to create an arc:
1. Press the “A” key on the keyboard to create an arc segment (you can also click on the arc icon in the upper right)
2. The line color will turn blue indicating you are ready to create an arc
3. Click along the curve of the arc
4. Click on the last point of the arc, and continue measuring
5. Press the “A” key to create another arc
An arc can be created at any time while measuring by pressing the “A” key and can be used multiple times during a measurement. An arc can also be a starting point by pressing the "A" key prior to starting a measurement.
Select Takeoffs and Markups
From the toolbar on the right side, select edit and choose “Select Single” to select one measurement, “Multiselect” to select multiple measurements , or "Select All" to select all measurements on the page.
TIP: You can also use the hot keys CTRL + A (COMMAND + A for Mac users) to select all measurements on a page.
Navigate the Takeoff List
- Use the search bar to filter your list view by takeoff name
- Group you takeoff templates by plan name for quick reference
- You can control the visibility (hide/unhide) of a takeoff on any plan sheet, using the eyeball icon (which appears when hovering over a template)
- You can edit, duplicate, delete, or add existing takeoffs to your library using the ellipse (3 dots) to the right of each takeoff template
- Additionally, you can click the Copy or Copy and Modify* button at the bottom of the takeoff settings menu to create a copy of the current takeoff with a new name, description, and assembly options.
*The button will say Copy if there is no assembly and Copy and Modify if an assembly has been added. - Clicking the right-pointing arrow will start the takeoff if you want to add more measurements
- From the takeoff “Library” sub-tab, click the green + in the takeoff list to quickly add as many takeoffs as you want to a project
Copy and Paste Measurements
- From the toolbar on the right side, select edit and choose “Select Single” to select one measurement, “Multiselect” to select multiple measurements , or "Select All" to select all measurements on the page.
- Hover over the desired measurement(s). Click once for single select or draw a box around the desired area if using multiselect.
- Once selected, you can use the appropriate hotkeys ('ctrl' 'c' for windows computers, 'command' 'c' for Mac), or navigate back to the edit option in the right toolbar and select the 'copy' function to duplicate the measurement details (including attached items and assemblies)
- To paste, move your mouse to the area you would like to paste the takeoffs and use the appropriate hotkeys to paste them in that spot ('ctrl' 'v' for windows computers, 'command' 'v' for Mac) or navigate back to the edit option in the right toolbar and select the 'paste' function for the measurements to appear in the top left of the page.
Rotate Measurements
Helpful when used with copy/paste for multiple like measurements with different orientations.
- From the toolbar on the right side, choose “Single Select ” to select one measurement, “Multiselect” to select multiple measurements , or "Select All" to select all measurements on the page.
- Hover over the desired measurement(s). Click once for single select or draw a box around the desired area if using multiselect.
- Once selected, you can use the hotkey 'R', or navigate back to the right toolbar and select the 'Rotate' tool to enable 360º rotation of the selected measurement(s).
- Click and hold the rotate handle and move your mouse to rotate the selected measurement(s).
Change Takeoff
For occasions where you want to change some of the measurements associated with a takeoff to a new or existing compatible takeoff.
- From the takeoff tab, first, select the desired measurements on the page.
- Navigate to the edit option in the right toolbar, where you will see a sub-option for change takeoff.
- Select change takeoff to open a window where you can assign measurements to an existing takeoff from the project list, or click "create" for a new takeoff.
- The takeoff list will filter to show only compatible takeoffs.
*For example: linear, pitched linear, surface area, and volume 3D are compatible since they represent lines. Area, pitched area, and volume 2D are compatible since they represent areas.
*You will not be able to use this option if you have selected incompatible measurements.
Add a Multiplier
If you’re dealing with a repeating floor or the same unit type on multiple floors and want to measure it once, the multiplier is a great way to account for the identical structures that need measuring.
If you’re starting a new takeoff
- Once you’ve entered your takeoff details and clicked “Start Measuring”, you’ll see a multiplier option under your ‘Measurement Type’ Inputs
- Here you will enter the number you would like to multiply by
- Click the “Save” button
- Complete your takeoff like normal
- Once you click “Finish Measuring”, the multiplier will duplicate those calculations based on the specified whole number.
If you’re editing an existing takeoff
- Start by using the single or multiselect option in the toolbar on the right
- Select or draw a rectangle around the measurement(s) you want to multiple.
- In the left panel, enter the number you would like to multiply by
- Click the “Save” button
TIP: Multiplier can be applied to several takeoffs of different types at once. However, takeoffs with variable inputs for height, rise, run, width, drop length and/or depth are not able to be updated simultaneously if they have different values assigned to the same input.
*If you have an item or assembly attached to the takeoff, material quantities will also be multiplied.
