    Article summary

Using Items and Assemblies is a major power move in your takeoff and estimating process. They help you get the most detailed information out of STACK to determine the true cost, labor, and quantity of materials needed for your projects.

STACK makes it easy to start incorporating them into your workflow by allowing you to auto-create a takeoff and start measuring directly from an individual item or assembly.

    How It Works

Simply locate an item or assembly that you want to use from a Library in your account and click the three dots beside it to select a Takeoff Measurement Type. STACK will automatically create a takeoff with that item or assembly already added so you can start measuring right away.

    What to Know

    • You can auto-create a takeoff and start measuring from any item or assembly in any Library (STACK, third-party, or Custom Library) in your account.
    • The selected item or assembly will automatically be added to the takeoff.
    • The takeoff will have the same name as the selected item or assembly.
    • The takeoff that's created will be listed on your project Takeoff List.
    • Takeoffs that are created from an item or assembly can be edited and work like any other takeoff you create in STACK.
      • You can change the takeoff Appearance; apply a Multiplier; add Labels and Takeoff Tags; and add additional Items and Assemblies as needed.
      • You can add the takeoff to your Takeoff Library for future use.

    1. Go to PLANS & TAKEOFFS.
    2. Open a plan sheet.
    3. Click the Libraries tab.
    4. Click in the field under Library to expand the dropdown menu and select the library containing the item or assembly you want.
    5. Perform a Library Search or click on the Items or Assemblies dropdown for an expanded list view to locate the item or assembly.
    6. Click the three dots to the right of the desired item or assembly and select the Takeoff Measurement Type you want used for the takeoff that will be created.
(Only Takeoff Measurement Types that are compatible with the item or assembly will be displayed.)
NOTE: With the completion of step 6, the takeoff is officially created and available on your Takeoff List.
    7. If you're working from an item, you may need to enter Inputs. The Input fields will be highlighted on the left panel if you need to enter info.
If working from an assembly and the Assembly Options panel appears, enter/select the necessary info in the Variables field(s) and/or Item Groups dropdown(s).
TIP: Click the Test Inputs button to make sure you have entered acceptable information in the Variables fields to avoid errors on your estimates.
    8. (Optional) Apply the Multiplier and Labels if needed.
TIP: You can click the Takeoff Settings button to change the Appearance and add Takeoff Tags or additional Items and Assemblies.
