Add an Item to a Takeoff

NOTE: To add an item to a takeoff, the item unit of measure must match the unit of measure output for the takeoff measurement type.* For example, an item with a "lin ft" unit of measure can be added to a takeoff with a "Linear" measurement type, but cannot be added to a takeoff with a "Count" measurement type.

*See Takeoff Measurement Types and Working with Item Formulas in Assemblies for more info on what data each takeoff measurement type provides.

    1. Click on the takeoff to which you want to add an item.
    2. Scroll down to find Items and Assemblies on the left panel. (Any items and assemblies already added to the takeoff will be listed above the + Add items and assemblies button.)
    3. Click the + Add items and assemblies button.
    4. Click the Items tab.
    5. Click to expand the Library dropdown and select the library that contains the item(s) you want to add.
    6. Perform a search or click on folders for expanded list view to locate the item(s) you want to add.
    7. Click the green + next to each item you want to add.
    8. If needed, repeat steps 5-7 to add additional items from other libraries.
TIP: You can also add assemblies if you'd like. Just click the Assemblies tab and follow the same process.
    9. Click the green Add button to add the selected items (and assemblies) to the takeoff.

The item(s) will now populate in Estimate Worksheets, Item Reports, and Material and Labor Estimates for this takeoff.

TIP: You can add your takeoff (with the added items included) to the Takeoff Library for re-use on future projects.

Remove an Item from a Takeoff

When you remove an item from a takeoff, the item will no longer appear on existing or new estimates/reports for the takeoff.

    1. Click on the takeoff from which you want to remove an item.
    2. Scroll down to find Items and Assemblies on the left panel.
    3. Find the item you want to remove from the list of added items and assemblies shown above the + Add items and assemblies button.
    4. Click the red trash can icon to the right of the item name.
    5. Click the Delete button.

    Next Steps

After you've added all the items and assemblies you need to your takeoffs, you can review item data on estimates and reports. If you've added 1build or BNi items, you can apply regional cost data to a Material and Labor Estimate.
